November is American Diabetes Month! Diabetes is one of the leading causes of disability and death in the United States. It can cause blindness, nerve damage, kidney disease and other health problems if it's not controlled.
- More than 37 million children adn adults have diabetes in the United States.
- Every 23 seconds, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with diabetes.
- 96 million Americans are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
- Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death.
- Diabetes causes more deaths than AIDS and breast cancer combined.
Follow up with your doctor and check your blood glucose levels. People who are at risk for type 2 diabetes can lower their risk by more than half if they make healthy changes. These changes include: eating healthy, getting more physical activity and losing weight.
