National Healthcare Decision Day

National Healthcare Decision Day

National Healthcare Decision Day, held every year on April 16, is an initiative to encourage people to express their wishes regarding their healthcare. It is important to establish your wishes, when to implement these directions and who can make decision for you in the event you are unable to do so for yourself. An advance directive is a legal document that assists with important parts of healthcare decisions. The primary purpose is two-fold:

  • designate a person or persons to serve as your healthcare decision maker when you are no longer able
  • may include a living will that gives direction of certain types of decisions related to the end of life and/or being in a persistent vegetative state

For more information, visit the Social Service booth at the Memorial Health Care Systems Health Fair on August 24, contact our Social Services department at 402-646-4653 or visit our Advance Directives page on our web site.
