Sleep Disorders

Getting a good night's sleep is part of maintaining your overall health and wellness. Your behaviors during the day and before bedtime can impact your sleep.

Tips to establish healthy sleep habits include the following:

  • Keep a consistent sleep schedule. Ge up at the same time every day.
  • Set a bedtime that is early enough for you to get a minimum of 7 hours of sleep.
  • Establish a relaxing bedtime routine.
  • Use your bed only for sleep and sex.
  • Make your bedroom quiet and relaxing and keep the room at a cool temperature.
  • Turn off electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime.
  • Don't eat a large meal before bedtime.
  • Avoid caffeine in the late afternoon or evenings.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol before bedtime.
  • Reduce your fluid intake before bedtime.
  • Exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet.

Not getting enough sleep is linked to many chronic diseases. Sleep disorders can interfere with your ability to get enough sleep. Visit with your medical provider about any sleep disturbances you are experiencing. A sleep study may be needed to identify and treat a sleep disorder.
