SEWARD, Neb. — After more than 26 years of dedicated leadership, Memorial Health Care Systems (MHCS) CEO Roger J. Reamer has announced his plans to retire from his position in the spring of 2027.

Reamer has served as the chief executive officer of MHCS for more than two decades, providing steady leadership and helping guide the organization through significant growth and change while remaining focused on its mission of providing high-quality health care close to home.

During Reamer’s tenure, MHCS has continued to expand services, strengthen its position as a rural health care leader and invest in facilities, technology and the future of rural health care in the Seward and surrounding communities. Under his leadership, MHCS has earned numerous recognitions for quality and performance, including multiple Top 20 Critical Access Hospital in the nation awards. 

“Roger’s impact on Memorial Health Care Systems cannot be overstated,” said Mike Tomes, Chair of the MHCS Board of Directors. “For more than 26 years, Roger has provided thoughtful, steady and forward-thinking leadership. He has always understood that the strength of MHCS comes down to one thing—taking care of people. His commitment to our patients, employees, physicians and communities has helped position MHCS for a strong future. While we will certainly miss his leadership, we are grateful for everything he has done and the legacy he leaves.”

Reamer’s influence extends well beyond MHCS. Throughout his career, he has served in numerous leadership and advisory roles at the local, state and national levels. His service has included serving on the Seward County Chamber and Development Board, Four Corners Public Health Board, the State of Nebraska Board of Health, Prairie Health Ventures GPO/President, Bryan College of Health Sciences Board of Trustees, the UNMC Board of Councilors and the American Hospital Association Board of Directors. He also served as Chairman of the Nebraska Hospital Association in 2005.

His contributions to health care have been recognized with numerous honors, including seven-time award winner of Becker’s Hospital Review’s Top Critical Access Hospital CEOs to Know, the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s J.B. Elliott Award and the Nebraska Hospital Association’s Excellence in Service Award.

“Serving Memorial Health Care Systems has been one of the greatest honors of my professional career,” said Reamer. “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside so many talented and dedicated people who care deeply about our patients and our communities. Together, we have accomplished a great deal, and I am proud of the organization MHCS has become. Most importantly, I am confident in the people and leadership who will continue to carry the mission of Memorial Health Care Systems into the future.”

The MHCS Board of Directors will begin planning for the transition and succession of leadership in the coming months. Reamer will remain in his role through the spring of 2027 to support a thoughtful and successful transition.
